The Exit One Bed & Breakfast has a secret rule: no matter how many rooms are actually available, travelers are told there’s only one room, with a single bed. When Chloe Ang gets a job working the desk, she tries to solve the mystery of the inn… And its mysterious owner, the enigmatic Leland. But will she end up getting more than she bargained for?
Peppered through the novella are stories about the Exit One’s visitors that fans of Archie Comics, “Once Upon a Time” and “Supernatural” might recognize…
A few months back, some Riverdale fans were chatting with me on Twitter, asking me when I would write a #Barchie script.
“Well, here’s the thing…” I told them.
A few months before that, I had an idea for a book cover, a version of which you see above. I thought it would be funny to make the author “F. Anne Ficke” (read it out loud as one word), and post it here on Tumblr. Then I thought about it some more, and thought it would be funny to write a description of the book. Then I thought I’d write an outline. That outline was 2,000 words long.
I was screwed.
But since I thought the idea of leaning into fanfic conventions and hopefully lovingly poke fun at them sounded like a good time, I decided to challenge myself.
30,000 words later, I was done with a 130+ page novella.
The problem is, this is a weird length and subject matter to submit around to publishers. It’s too short, 50% AU fanfic, and 50% original romance material. On the other hand, I was hesitant to just dump it on AO3 and call it a night.
So I decided to look into self-publishing. A weird novella seemed like a fun thing to try out, I already had the cover, and this way I could make some mistakes, learn from said mistakes, post it, and maybe some folks would check it out.
The result is at the link above (also below), now available for sale for the low price of $2.99 on the Kindle store. There’ll be a print edition available soon, because all I had to do was a little more formatting and create a full bleed book cover so why not?
If you’re interested at all and have just under $3 to spare, please check it out. And also, please leave a comment and rate it on Amazon, because that helps their algorithm thingy a lot. And if you have feedback at all, let me know! I’d love to hear what everyone thinks.
You’re all the best.
PS: there’s a little sexy-time content in this book, but nothing too graphic, I think. Mostly your regular fanfic/romance conventions.
